To define the various defect priority/severity options in Jira
Critical
- Major loss of system function or defect results in testing coming to a halt and no acceptable work around exists
- This is a show stopper/blocker defect and the issue takes precedence over all others.
High
- The issue can block progress but an acceptable work-around exists while in test phase and test execution can continue to a certain degree
- Defect in this level must be fixed before go-live
Medium
- Defect has no significant impact on the test cycle execution and/or an acceptable work-around exists
- Change can be promoted to production with these defects outstanding
- Business impacts for each defect must be addressed and a work-around or contingency plan must be in place to resolve the problem
Low
- Defect is minor or cosmetic in nature and does not impact functionality
- Change can be promoted to production with these defects outstanding
- The problems can be grouped and the business impact must be addressed
- Defects can be resolved at a subsequent phase or release. Eg. spelling or look-and-feel is incorrect
